Sustainable Farming Practices
At Heritage Farms New Boston, we are dedicated to growing food in a way that restores the land and honors traditional agricultural wisdom. Our farm is built on permaculture and regenerative farming practices, with a strong emphasis on nurturing soil biology and stewarding the land according to biblical principles of agriculture and care for creation.
Our Growing Philosophy
Healthy soil is the foundation of everything we grow. We work continually to improve our soil through cover cropping, compost, composted manures, and fish emulsion, helping to build a living ecosystem beneath the surface. The products we use on our farm are certified organic and OMRI-listed. Our focus is on natural growing methods that work with nature rather than against it. We also practice biological pest management. Instead of relying on harsh chemicals, we use row covers and plant-based controls such as neem oil and pyrethrin when necessary. Our fields are also home to many beneficial insects—lady beetles are especially abundant and play an important role in maintaining balance on the farm.
Heirloom and Specialty Produce
One of the things that makes our farm unique is our focus on rare and historic heirloom varieties. Most of the produce we grow comes from historic heirloom and open-pollinated seeds, selected for their flavor, beauty, and rich agricultural heritage. Occasionally we grow a few exceptional hybrid varieties when they offer outstanding quality.
Everything we sell begins as a seed and is carefully grown using our natural farming practices, resulting in produce that is flavorful, nutrient-dense, and grown with integrity.
New Additions to the Farm
In 2026, we expanded our offerings to include pastured chickens and farm-fresh eggs. Our chickens are raised outdoors on pasture where they can forage and are fed certified organic, non-GMO, corn-free, and soy-free feed.
We also introduced traditional sourdough bread, made with certified organic flour and fermented to develop deep flavor and digestibility. Our bread is made the old-fashioned way—naturally fermented and free from preservatives.
Our Promise
We believe everyone deserve to know how their food is grown. That's why we are committed to transparency in our farming practices. Our mission is to provide exceptional quality food while building healthier soil, supporting biodiversity, and serving our community.
Come taste the difference that sustainable farming and traditional methods can make.
